Printer setup failed. Error Code 1722. The RPC-server is unavailable

Question

Why can’t I install the Reckon Accounts V303 PDF Converter (Amyuni PDF converter)?  I keep getting the error:  Printer setup failed. Error Code: 1722. The RPC-server is unavailable.

Answer

You may experience this error on a Windows 64-bit system when installing the Reckon Accounts PDF converter, when you have another PDF writer or converter installed that conflicts with the Reckon Accounts PDF converter.

We are aware that the NOVA PDF conflicts with the Reckon Accounts PDF converter.  Other brands may also conflict.

 

Workaround

Delete the conflicting PDF writer/converter

1.    Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features

2.    Highlight the PDF writer/converter (eg: NOVA PDF), right-click it and uninstall.

3.    Reboot your PC.

4.    Install the Reckon Accounts PDF Converter.

Note:  the Reckon Accounts PDF Converter is installed by clicking on install.exe in the Reckon Accounts installation directory.  The default directory is C:\Program Files\Intuit\Reckon Accounts 20xx-xx\.

Additional Information

You will get this error if your Print Spooler Service has been turned off.  The Print Spooler Service must be turned on to install the Reckon Accounts PDF Converter.  To check the Print Spooler Service:

1.    Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services

2.    Scroll down the list to Print Spooler  and check that Status is Started and Startup Type is Automatic;

3.    If the Print Spooler is not on, highlight it and on the left click on Start the service;

4.    Close the Services module.
