Cannot convert Accountant’s Copy (QBX) to an Accountant’s Working File (QBA)

Legacy KB ID: 3929

Question

Why can’t I convert the Accountant’s Copy (QBX) to an Accountant’s Working File (QBA)?  I get an error: "The filename you entered is too long or is not a valid filename."

Answer

A Reckon Accounts company file cannot have more than 28 characters in its computer file name.  Also, the full path of the file cannot have more than 128 characters.

This error may also occur if you try to convert a QBX file that is on an USB Stick, regardless of the length of the computer file name or the full path.

Workaround

1.    Reduce the length of the computer file name to less than 28 characters.

2.    Copy the file to another location like your Desktop or C:\ drive.

If the QBX file in on an USB Stick, copy it to another location like your Desktop or C:\ drive.
